Saudi Arabia And Islamic World Strongly Condemn Burning A Copy Of Holy Quran In Sweden

Saudi Arabia and many other Muslim-majority countries have condemned the burning of the Quran in Sweden. The act was carried out by an Iraqi man, Salwan Momika, on Wednesday, June 29, 2023, during the festival of Eid al-Adha. Momika tore up several pages of the holy book, stomped on it, and set pages alight outside the largest mosque in Stockholm.

The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that the act was "a provocative and disgraceful act" that "fuels strife and serves the advocates of extremism." The statement also said that Saudi Arabia rejects all forms of extremism and hatred, and that it supports the right to freedom of expression, but not when it is used to insult or provoke others.

Other Muslim-majority countries that have condemned the Quran burning include Iraq, Iran, Turkey, Egypt, Morocco, and the Gulf Cooperation Council. The United Nations has also called on Sweden to take action to prevent further incidents of Quran burning. Russian president Vladimir Putin also condemn this act, and in one video shows Putin visits last Friday mosque in Makhachkala, the capital of Dagestan and hug one copy of Holy Quran.

The Quran burning has sparked protests and condemnations across the Muslim world. In some countries, there have been calls for a boycott of Swedish goods. The Swedish government has said that it regrets the incident and that it will investigate how it happened.
